 Phat Jack’s BBQ has moved to their new location as of this last monday. They were closed for a week or so preparing for this move. The new location is bigger and allows them the focus even better on what they do, BBQ! Their new location is at 11th & Cornhusker right next to the Save Mart grocery store there. So tons of parking also at this location and lots more seating.
For those not familiar with Phat Jack’s BBQ. This is a whole different experience. The restaurant is more of a preparation area and proving grounds for what Matt & Jackie really do. These two are Professional Competitive BBQ winners. Not just here and there…we are talking every single year, driving and flying all over, award winning BBQ all over the nation professionals. The walls of the new location are covered with ribbons and trophies. During the summer months it is not uncommon at all to see a note on the door and a post on Facebook that they are gone for a few days to a week to go win some more awards. This is high quality, award winning, BBQ that melts in your mouth.
They have a huge new monster of a smoker pictured below. This beast had to be hauled in. Seating has increased a ton. But the menu is still what has made Phat Jack’s awesome. They have daily lunch specials, like the psycho sandwich (1/2 pork, 1/2 brisket), your choice of side, & a drink usually runs $7.29+tax! This is all these folks do is practice, practice, practice making perfect BBQ every day. So you better be ready for this. We will also deliver a single meal all the way up to a huge car full of BBQ for your whole office for lunch.

 El Sitio Mexican Restaurant moved to their new location back in December. Most will remember the little place over on 17th & Van Dorn. This is a restaurant that is known around the neighborhood quite well but it is good and time that the rest of Lincoln got over there to check out the new place. In the summer it was very common to see tons of bicycles leaned up in front of the old locale as it was just a few blocks from the bike path. I hope that folks will bike over from the Hwy 2 bike paths also in the warmer months. It seemed it was part of what made El Sitio that place to be.
The new location is at 47th & Pioneers. Most will remember this fondly as the former Paul’s BBQ location. The building has undergone a pretty awesome transformation. Tile countertops, all black tables and chairs, and great lighting accents. In the evenings you can see the purple highlights one the front bar area. There is a dedicated chips and salsa bar also. Was very impressed with the new location.
Things that were great before are still the same. And they moved their large chrome insects over to the new locale also. For some the huge chrome grass hopper and praying mantis were icons of the 17th & Van Dorn location. This is the old menu but basically all the same food but new one looks a lot more polished. In fact that word describes well what El Sitio has done with their whole concept. This is a wonderful local neighborhood restaurant that is ready to build on their success. Their culture of regulars may change just a little bit with being just a few blocks from Union College. With the affordable pricing and distance from the school it is sure to become a haven for students and faculty at the college. And you don’t have to just take my word for it, Mr. Wilson has a take on it also. Give El Sitio Mexican a try if you have not been there yet.
    
 It is no secret that we do deliveries of all sorts of items. We do a good amount of beer runs for folks. And are also happy to deliver you a bottle of wine from fine cuisine restaurants such as The Oven or The Parthenon. We also deliver from established local retailers such as Meier’s Cork ‘n Bottle. Whatever you are looking for we can probably find it in Lincoln.
Obviously there are some rules that one has to follow here. Your group must be willing so provide proof of age to accept delivery of alcoholic beverages. This many times means everyone in the general area. If it is obvious that mischief is afoot…we are required to report it. So please don’t cause us to have to ruin your party by asking us to do a delivery that is obviously against the law.
We also will be happy to deliver cigarettes and cigars also. Same general rule applies, if you look younger than thirty it is certain that we will ask you for your ID before handing you your smokes. This always seems so obvious but every now and then we do have to refuse delivery to someone for attempting to find a way around the system.
 Probably the biggest question we hear from folks around Christmas time is what is still open on Christmas Day. Well here is the official list of what we KNOW will be open that day. Most restaurants are open on Christmas Eve however most are closing their doors for the holiday around 4-6pm that evening. But there are a few standouts that are keeping their doors open.
If you like Chinese food, China Wall way out there by the Walmart at 85th & Hwy 2 will be open during the day, night hours are up in the air at this point.
Village Inn will be open from 7AM until around 4PM.
The busiest restaurant in town on Christmas again this year will fall to last years champion, IHOP. They will be open around the clock as usual, 24 hours a day.
This just in, Big Red Restaurant & Sports Bar will be opening at 5pm on Christmas Day. This is the home of some awesome eats. From huge burgers to soups & salads. There is definitely something on their menu for just about everyone. They serve food til 10pm. Their bar is open til normal close time of 2am.
The Starlite Lounge in the Lincoln Haymarket will also be open most of Christmas Day. And Grata will be open for business also.
Update: The Wendy’s at 48th & Vine will be open in the even on Christmas. They will be open from 4pm to 10pm. This is the only Wendy’s that will be open in Lincoln.
We also found The Garage will be open after 5pm today. Big Sals is open, The McDonalds & the Chinese Buffet by Westfield Mall are open. And Popeye’s Chicken is also open. We did see one of the D’leon’s open also but others were closed. Staff at the West O Street D’leons said they would be open all night but did say most of the locations would be closed in the evening.
So there are still some options for that special day of the year to get some food delivered to your door. If you know of others that are open that day…please post it on our Facebook page. If you need something besides food, the Walgreens at 17th & South Street and 14th & Superior are always open on Christmas. They also have some basic groceries there also if you need a gallon of milk or something like that.
And rumors have been confirmed that Pat’s BBQ & Ramos Pizza are up and rolling today also!
And if you happen to be looking for something to do on Christmas Day, Marcus Theatres will be open and showing all their current movies. So go catch a flick with the whole family or maybe just a good friend that needs a companion on Christmas. Remember that many do not have family here in Lincoln to spend Christmas with. So if you do know someone that may not be spending Christmas with family that may be in a different state or country, Maybe invite them to a movie with your family and help them feel included and loved on this special holiday.
 Heoya’s food truck is a new sensation in Lincoln, Ne. They have been up and running for a while now and it is well time we showed them some love. This is some really great Korean & Asian inspired BBQ Tacos, Hoogies, Rice Bowls, & Authentic tea or coffee.
We finally caught up with Minh and the truck while it was at 31st & O Street. Their concept of the truck and how it interacts with their Lincoln customer base is actually very unique and modern. The truck goes all over Lincoln on private lots right now. From UNL campus, various gas stations, to parking lots outside of the malls. They have a very loyal customer base building right now that gets status updates of where the truck is located at & hours open via Twitter and Facebook. If you want to friend them on Facebook just click their logo above and you are well on your way to some awesome food.
Their menu is very simple and easy to understand. Their hoogie sandwiches are perfect for those on the go. I grabbed a pork one tonight. The pork was perfectly sweet and they have the right amount of veggies and meat in there to balance out the bread on the sandwich. It is very easy to see why they are becoming a very popular choice in Lincoln. Prices are more than fair for the meals. You can also text or call in your orders and they will have it prepped and ready to go. And of course…we will deliver their tasty meals to anywhere in Lincoln!
Their tag line is “Food makes me happy” and from what we have been hearing that is exactly what is going on at this truck!
   
 Cheddar’s Casual Cafe is going to open in a month. We have breaking news this time from an insider that tipped us off. I was up in Omaha so stopped by and got some dirt on the new Lincoln, Ne location. They will officially be opening their doors on Monday, January 16th, 2012 here in Lincoln.
Cheddar’s Casual Cafe has a huge menu that is full of choices. Everything from sandwiches & burgers to steaks and catfish. You will definitely find something you like there. They are especially proud of the fact that most of their dishes are made from scratch in house. We will be offering delivery on their first night open. From the sounds of it they have a few weeks there to train staff to prepare for the huge first month and with the location they have it is going to be a packed house for some time. If you can’t wait to try it…the Omaha location is at 120th & L Street.
And just in case you happen to be looking for a new career…They are still looking for a management team for the Lincoln location. Would be an excellent opportunity to get in with what is sure to be a very solid addition to the local dining scene. Below is a pic of what the building looked like just a few weeks back. All the exterior is finished and looking beautiful now.
 This is another super deal in December. Everyday in December you can get a 10 piece bucket of chicken from KFC for only $10. That is a tough deal to beat.
It is your choice of Original Recipe, Kentucky Grilled, Extra Crispy, or Mixed Bucket. Throughout the month of December, KFC Sunday Buckets are just $10 all day with no coupon required.
And of course for just a few more bucks you can have it delivered right to your front door or to work for Lunch and never even have to go out in the cold to get a huge warm bucket of delicious chicken. Of course…don’t forget the side of biscuits and mashed potatoes!
NOTE: The $10 bucket deal is limited to dark meat cuts, meaning legs and thighs according to staff at the local KFC. If you want the white meat breast and wing pieces in the bucket it is the regular price. And of course they do have their whole meal deals which are a great deal any way you want it!
Subway has a super deal for December. It is “$2 Customer Appreciation Month” at Subway. So what does that mean for you? You can order a 6″ Cold Cut Combo or Meatball Marinara and it will only cost you a whole two bucks. You can order as many as you like for $2 each. Personally I really don’t like bologna, so I would not be ordering much of the cold cut combos. But I love their meatball sub with provolone and jalapeños! It is all month long so plenty of time to take advantage of this deal.
And of course they still have their $5 foot longs if you want something else. The Western Egg & Cheese is the foot long of the month and it is available all day long. Which reminds me…if you have not tried Subway for breakfast it is a pretty good deal. I love the Steak, Egg & Cheese sub toasted and with jalapeños on it of course!  With all the excitement of some openings happening lately we passed over a very important event. Barry’s Bar and Grill at 9th & Q Street in Lincoln, Ne. closed for the final time this last Friday. This has been a Husker favorite for over two decades. Their food and establishment has been featured in several national publications. We are sad to see them go. There will still be some events catered there but as the the future of this location and what could be there in the future that is all up in the air at this point.
For those who are not familiar with this establishment it was also home to a treasure chest of Husker sports memorabilia. Also in the mix is some Kansas State stuff also. But needless to say this is a loss to our Haymarket area and we will be holding our breathe that something deserving of the shoes it will be filling moves into this location.
And congratulations to our Cornhuskers on an outstanding 9-3 season so far. We are looking forward to a January 2 bowl game in Florida. It has been a while since our team has see that area of the nation. GO BIG RED!
