Lincoln’s very own Greenfield’s Cafe is moving into the Lincoln Haymarket. News we are hearing just today. This is really exciting. It looks like they are going into the old Tool House building. This is a great move for a growing Lincoln Business…and a good option for folks living downtown also. This also gives folks in the new hotels being built down there a lot of choices…only a short walk away are some more choices. And even some more options come game day. Downtown is really heating up in the food game.
For those who do not know about Greenfield’s Cafe they are a local company owned by Kevin Knudson, who is from the same family who built, DaVinci’s Pizza here in Lincoln. So there is a long history of family and community that helped build Greenfield’s Cafe. Their is also a strong Christian based message behind the restaurant. Some will find this appealing and for others, well, the food will do the talking.
This is a gem in Lincoln that has some decadent pleasures on their menu. From their bacon to the eggs, there is always some fine detail that is going into the favors. We have been delivering and enjoying it also. They have the traditional favorites and also unique twists on some meals also. By far my personal favorite is the Maple Pepper Bacon Crepes, absolutely one of the best breakfast dishes Lincoln, NE has to offer.
Check out their full menu. Don’t forget to check out their burgers also. Their burgers are consistently in the finals for the Best Burgers in Nebraska challenge which has become an annual event now in Nebraska. And yes, of course we will deliver anything on their menu.
I have a secret I have been holding back on. It is something I have been telling friends about but have not really spilled the news about. We have been focusing on a revamp of the menus page and the back end of the website in preparation for a transition and I have been not been posting as much as I should. Lincoln is growing rapidly. One has to only take a quick look at our West Haymarket area to know that we are in a transition period. Sometimes I wonder if Lincoln will be the same as before. We are a city on that has small town values but is growing into a large city. I sometimes worry that our small midwestern roots will fade with the growth.
But there is a small town bar that has shown us a whole new perspective in Lincoln. Red 9 is a inspiration to us. Many of us remember rumors of this building being demolished several years back. P.O. Pears was in this location for many years. After they left the area this building, its history, and its famous red exterior was in a state of limbo. I am so very pleased that the current owners took this concept to the next level. While some others in town have claimed to redefine the Lincoln night life, Red 9 has truly done just that. A huge tip of the hat to the leadership this group of individuals have shown to Lincoln.
Now to the secret, Inside the workings of the bands and awesome outside band area, Red 9 has hatched a pabulum. Midknight Grille is full of life and images of greatness. This is not just bar food my friends, this is greatness in the works. Below are some images of their work. Their full menu is growing and changing as they grow. They are open for Lunch and Dinner and it is definitely worth the trip to the downtown area. The other plus is that parking around Red 9 is easier to find than currently in the Haymarket area. And yes, of course we will deliver anything on their menu to anywhere in Lincoln. Just give us a call and we will make it happen.
This year the Husker Spring game was a lot different. More fans, great weather, a little shorter. And a lot more meaningful. Team Jack is a project that Rex Burkhead helped make possible. And for a little boy with cancer this is a dream come true. I wish all young boys with illnesses could get the same simple joys. You can view the video here it you missed it. We understand that the restaurant business is a tough business to be in. There is competition on almost every corner. Prices are always on the rise. We are here to help as much as possible. We want your restaurant to be here next year for our customers as much as the restaurant owner wants to be there. This is why we have continued the same policies we started with. We will never ask any restaurant for a penny to be on our website. We will never ask any restaurant for a food discount to deliver their food. There is absolutely NEVER any cost to the restaurant to do business with us. We believe strongly that the restaurant and their staff deserve what they charge for their product. Sometimes we even see some that we think should probably charge a little more. Lincoln, NE has a lot of what we call “High Value” Restaurants. This philosophy also allows us to give your customer exactly what they want. If they call in asking for your restaurant we will never suggest another partner restaurant or any of the like. We strive to get the customer exactly what they want from your restaurant.

That special time of the year is here again. Time to tell those loved ones you care some much about how much you love them. We can do some special stuff for you. If you are stuck at work or just want someone else to drop off a special surprise, we totally got your back. So lets give you a few unique ideas…
Basket Bunch is a great little local company that can make you a completely custom gift basket. Just tell them what you want and they can get that taken care of for you. I love local companies that totally come to bat for their customers. But you had better get your orders in soon, 5 days left and soon to be less!
And while you are at it…try to think about someone you know who may not be getting anything. This is a great time of the year to be thoughtful to those who may not have a special someone. Sometimes just a little something can mean the world to someone who has lost a loved one or may just be alone this year. Small things are huge blessings to those who are alone.
Probably the biggest question we hear from folks around Christmas time is what is still open on Christmas Day. Well here is the official list of what we KNOW will be open that day. Most restaurants are open on Christmas Eve however most are closing their doors for the holiday around 4-6pm that evening. But there are a few standouts that are keeping their doors open. But do be advised…if the restaurant is not busy do may close earlier than expected. We will be delivering on Christmas day but also may close for a few hours for a family brunch also.
If you like Chinese food, China Wall way out there by the Walmart at 85th & Hwy 2 will be open during the day, night hours are up in the air at this point. And the Sakura China Buffet will also be open all day on Christmas and Christmas Eve also.
Village Inn will be open from 7AM until around 4PM. The Cobbler Cafe, aka Shoemaker’s Truck Stop, will also be open from 11am to 7pm. We highly recommend them also for some great eats. They have a new menu in the works also.
The busiest restaurant in town on Christmas again this year will fall to each years champion, IHOP. They will be open around the clock as usual, 24 hours a day.
Big Red Restaurant & Sports Bar will be opening at 5pm on Christmas Day. This is the home of some awesome eats. From huge burgers to soups & salads. There is definitely something on their menu for just about everyone. They serve food til 10pm. Their bar is open til normal close time of 2am.
The Starlite Lounge in the Lincoln Haymarket will also be open most of Christmas Day. And Grata will be open for business also.
The Wendy’s at 48th & Vine will be open in the even on Christmas. They will be open from 4pm to 10pm. This is the only Wendy’s that will be open in Lincoln.
We also found The Garage will be open after 5pm. Big Sals is open, Many of the McDonalds, Pat’s BBQ & Ramos Pizza, And Popeye’s Chicken at 48th & Vine are also open. One or two of the D’leon’s Mexican Restaurants may be open also but others were closed. Staff at the West O Street D’leons said they would be open all night but did say most of the locations would be closed in the evening. We have heard but not been able to confirm that the Sonic Drive In on North 27th will be open during the day on Christmas.
So there are still some options for that special day of the year to get some food delivered to your door. If you know of others that are open that day…please post it on our Facebook page. If you need something besides food, the Walgreens at 17th & South Street, 14th & Superior, and 70th & O Street are always open on Christmas. They also have some basic groceries there also if you need a gallon of milk or something like that. And many of the CVS locations will also be open on Christmas Day.
And if you happen to be looking for something to do on Christmas Day, Marcus Theatres will be open and showing all their current movies. So go catch a flick with the whole family or maybe just a good friend that needs a companion on Christmas. Remember that many do not have family here in Lincoln to spend Christmas with. So if you do know someone that may not be spending Christmas with family that may be in a different state or country, Maybe invite them to a movie with your family and help them feel included and loved on this special holiday.
Tilted Kilt is now open and serving at Gateway Mall. There has been a long wait for this one. They had a few bumps in the timeline on getting everything all finished up over there. We have followed them on facebook watching the progress. For a while we really had our doubts as it seemed to be taking absolutely forever and it seemed others were hungry for the final opening also. It will be busy for a bit and we sincerely hope that the long wait has not diminished any interest in this unique establishment.
We do understand that the environment will cater to a certain crowd, ie, men. But the food will speak to all. The interior of the restaurant is gorgeous. It has that old school pub feel to it but with a modern touch. Beautiful woods around you with large TV’s for watching your favorite Husker or NFL games. It is obvious that no expense was spared to make this a great addition to Lincoln. We are also glad to see if at Gateway Mall verses other choices in town. Gateway was the first real mall in Lincoln and for a while it looks as if it would fade away with South Pointe growing on the south side of town. We are super impressed with the management of our only indoor mall experience in Lincoln to keep things fresh and exciting. We do happen to really miss The Bay being there as it brought a good vibe to the mall area. But exciting things continue to happen at our very own Gateway Mall in Lincoln!
And of course we will deliver the Tilted Kilt’s delicious eats to anywhere in Lincoln, NE and many of the surrounding areas. Below is a little teaser for you eyes and tongue! Their menu has a lot of the standard bar style food along with huge portions of awesomeness like the Sloppy Jane. That is made with your choice of roasted Turkey or shaved Rib Eye and topped with Thousand Island Dressing, Swiss Cheese & coleslaw. So their is definitely some different tastes being introduced to Lincolnites.
Go ahead and place your order for your holiday pies with Village Inn or Perkins. Then give us a call and we will reserve time for you on any day you like to have the pies delivered directly to your door. We have good relationships already in place to make this a great experience for you. You can place your order for Village Inn pies directly on their website. Not only is this a great finishing touch to any dinner…but how about ordering some for your staff at work! This is a such a wonderful time of the year to make sure your staff know they are appreciated more than ever. There are also a several local vendors that bake pies or cheesecakes for the holidays. Stauffer’s Cafe & Pie Shoppe make some of the best home made pies in town. And if you are on the north side of town, The Northside Cafe has the same Stauffer’s pies available also. For cheesecakes it is hard to beat High Society Cheesecake. There are tons of options but do make sure to get your pie order in soon. Demand for pies and cheesecakes from these local vendors is usually very high. And of course give us a call so we can reserve you a delivery spot in our schedule also.

Barry’s is back! The new owners have it open and ready to roll as far as the interior goes. This is still a work in progress but it is great to see folks in this bar and restaurant again. We drive by a whole lot and we have seen good numbers of folks inside and outside. Barry’s website is not up yet. But the Facebook page is a live and full of images and life. They have a full menu on most days. On game days the menu gets pared down to the basics. You will have to just live with the construction for a little bit longer. In a few months the exterior will also be done. The rooftop area is coming along very nicely. The open roof area will be a great area for smokers in Lincoln also. Barry’s is going to have one of the most unique lounge areas in town when this is all done. And the new updated exterior will fit in a ton better than the old exterior for the Haymarket area. Even with just the bare old brick showing it is starting to blend in with the area better.

Many around town have already discovered a small red trailer that sells some of the best burgers in town. Nitro Burger is selling some of Lincoln, Nebraska’s best hamburgers outside in the awesome weather this fall. I have had many of their burgers and every one of them is fantastic.
The largest draw for Nitro Burger is the absolute uniqueness of the burgers on their menu that you will love. Each one is topped with something different and sometimes not something you would normally consider a burger topping. And there is usually something new they are up to also. If you happen to not be in mood for a burger they also have a shrimp hoagie sandwich and some other items to fill you up. And don’t forget their awesome grilled seasoned steak fries!
Their new more permanent home is on the north side of 28th & O Street directly across from Village Inn. Please follow them on Facebook to keep up to date on location and hours. Most days are pretty consistent for lunch 11-2pm & dinner 6-8:30pm hours of operation. Weather does sometimes effect their hours. And of course we deliver their awesome goodness to anywhere in Lincoln, NE.
