Wahoo Fish Taco’s is now open downtown. This is a little different experience from other places in the downtown area. Walking into the restaurant is a little like walking into a surf or skateboard shop. They have the place decorated very much to a surfer vibe. The general attitude is very appealing and positive.
The name of the restaurant is a little deceptive. As Wahoo’s Fish Taco’s serves a lot more than just fish tacos. Their menu is full of surprises. They obviously have tacos, but also burritos, salads, and a host of bowls. Their options include everything from chicken to vegetarian and tofu. So their is definitely something on the menu that you will love. On top of that they do have a full service in house bar also.
Wahoo’s is going to find a very unique fit in the downtown area and we are excited to see the options that P Street is bringing to Lincoln, NE! The downtown area despite the obstacles in parking has become a hot spot lately for new and fresh restaurants in Lincoln and it is great to see our downtown are growing and vibrant when others city’s in America struggle to keep their downtown areas full of life. Kudos to those in Lincoln that continue to focus on keeping downtown exciting and new.
Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers is opening another Lincoln, Nebraska location. Rumor has it will be opening in October. This is really exciting news as Cane’s has undoubtedly some of the best chicken fingers in town. At times I still marvel that it is all they do serve but if you do something right what else do you really need to do.
If you have never tried Cane’s…you are missing out. Their chicken strips are never frozen, breaded in house, and cooked when you order them. No pre-breaded frozen stuff that arrived on a semi truck from who knows where. It is real chicken in there also. These are no nuggets that have been mechanically separated and pressed back together. This is 100% pure and natural they way it should be.
My favorite thing about our local Cane’s is the staff. I have never seen a sad or even a bored looking face in this place. Their staff are always happy and smiling. This says a lot about the environment they work in. Kudos to a management team that had the ability to make fast food a fun place to work also. It is harder to find that type of environment these days.
We will looking forward to this new location that is closer UNL campus and our clients on this side of town.
Pepe’s Bistro is going to be adding a food truck to the Lincoln, Ne market very soon. Pepe’s Bistro is located at 62nd & Havelock. The menu is vegan & vegetarian food prepared using fresh, local, and organic ingredients. The daily dishes do lean to the Latin side in most cases. Some are spicy and some are not. If you don’t like spicy, mild is always possible and Pepe will make it so. The menu is never really the same so you show up, see what is cooking, and you have some of that. There are some standard menu items that stay the same. But it is what is cooking at the moment that may be the most interesting. It is a pretty cool experience and the atmosphere is just as relaxed and as organic as the food there. You can see what is cooking on a regular basis on the Facebook page. Only thing you do need to remember is that if you swing over there is to bring a little cash or a check. Of course if you order through Errandbug we will always accept your credit or debit card for payment. And if you happen to be riding your bike by Pepe’s, stop in and you get a little discount for just being an awesome bike rider. All skill levels of riders are welcome
Pepe’s Bistro’s Food Truck would have a very unique fit in Lincoln. It would join a growing number of food trucks in the Lincoln market but would be the only one currently as an exclusively vegetarian option. With the explosion of food trucks lately I am finding it more unlikely that the City Council will change the existing ordinance, which allows food trucks to park in a public right of way for only 10 minutes. So as it is right now the food trucks must be parked on privately owned lots to operate. I don’t really see that changing with the number of new trucks popping up now. I could see the City Council selling permits to operate in certain spots as a work around. The issue there is making enough profit to make paying for the permit a good option. We love the food trucks and their flexible locations that make it possible for different tastes all over town. The warm weather has really helped these vendors to shine and bring Lincoln, Ne some great new foods. And the excitement level all of them have brought to Lincoln is incredible to feel.
One thing you can do to is help get this food truck on the Streets. Pepe is in need of some additional funding to make this happen. You can donate online at Kickstarter.
Lincoln Nebraska has really embraced the food truck movement in town. The Asian Heoya pioneered this movement in town but has lead to several other trucks and trailers around town. There are also a few Mexican trucks but I don’t see them open on a consistent basis. The most notable of future food trucks being name Curbside Catering, and it appears they will be up and rolling very soon. It is something different but the main drive of these trucks is a simple concept, they make great food that is not what everyone else is selling in town. GUP Kitchen and A La CARTe joined the movement with their distinctive menus. The later two also followed a similar unique use of social media to get the word out on locations and menu items. This is a brilliant use of free tools available to not only market their product but to keep their customers connected and excited about their offerings.
Every other Saturday night these three truck converge on one location, 27th and N Street for a food extravaganza. They will be on this corner lot from 6:30 to 9pm. The lines were very long last time so be ready to be a little patient, but the prize is so worst the wait. And if you happen to miss this weekend…don’t worry they are open all week long also. And they will all be together once again on the same lot two weeks from now.
Now a sweet little surprise to top off the whole party, Serendipities Cupcakes will be joining them this weekend. So you can get dinner and a desert there also. Serendipities Cupcakes is located at 27th & Superior and has turned up the heat on the cupcake wars in Lincoln. And of course if you would choose to have any of the above delivered…well you all know what to do so no need to tell you again and again.
If you would like to read some reviews, Jeff Korbelik of The Lincoln Journal Star has wrote on each of them. Most recently was the article on A La CARTe. Here are the links for the reviews of both Heoya and GUP Kitchen also. So there is a lot of material to read up on but the proof is really in the tastes of the food served therein.
Huge props to Lincoln’s very own HF Crave for defeating all the other great & awesome burgers in town to become this years KLIN Chompion! HF Crave is a local creation. Most of their ingredients are sourced from local vendors and partners whenever possible. They have a winning attitude and have produced a solid product for the masses in Lincoln. They had some very tough competition as Lincoln, Nebraska is home to some of the nation’s absolute best burgers.
If you have not tried HF Crave‘s burgers and fries…it is probably time you did. It is worth the trip over there. And if you don’t feel like driving, well we can take care of the leg work for you. Their menu is very straight forward and easy to read also. They even have serveral “stuffed” burgers, think cheese inside the burger and you got the concept. You know you are craving it so give us a call so we can get you filled up. Nothing like a full belly and some friendly smiles to boot!
There are some awesome eats in Lincoln, NE. KLIN is hosting the Munch Madness Tournament again this year. With a little twist, this year is in the search of the Best Burger in Lincoln, NE.
There were a ton of submissions but only 32 restaurants made the initial cut. There are some new players this year in the hunt. Nitro Burger is the awesome burger shack over on 12th & South Street. A relatively new player in the game but a very solid and unique burger experience. The burgers are made right in front of you and there are some very different combinations of flavors to choose from.
Greta’s Gourmet is also a new entry this year. Greta’s is right off of 48th & Highway 2 off to the side of the Git ‘n Split Gas Station. They have become the home of everything from Handcrafted Meats & fresh bacon to Glacé Artisan Ice Cream. Greta’s Gourmet also features a Hot Dinner Special every night…every night there is something a little different so you are sure not to get bored here.
But what we are talking about here is the best burger in Lincoln. There is a complete list of the entrants on the Munch Madness Tournament page. There will be some stiff competition this year. We have our favorites in mind…but you had best go vote for yours!
And of course if you need to try a few of these…Just give us a call and we will get them delivered to you so we can help you decide!
That special time of the year is here again. Time to tell those loved ones you care some much about how much you love them. We can do some special stuff for you. If you are stuck at work or just want someone else to drop off a special surprise, we totally got your back. So lets give you a few unique ideas…
Just some ideas there. The cupcake wars in Lincoln, Nebraska have exploded…Serendipities Cupcakes is now open over on 27th & Superior. There are also several other cupcake vendors in town now like LE Cupcakes & Cupcakes and More. So pretty sure we can find something you really like with all those choices!
Basket Bunch is a great little local company that can make you a completely custom gift basket. Just tell them what you want and they can get that taken care of for you. I love local companies that totally come to bat for their customers. But you had better get your orders in soon, 5 days left and soon to be less!
And while you are at it…try to think about someone you know who may not be getting anything. This is a great time of the year to be thoughtful to those who may not have a special someone. Sometimes just a little something can mean the world to someone who has lost a loved one or may just be alone this year. Small things are huge blessings to those who are alone.
Topper’s Pizza will be open on February 11th. That is this Saturday. The first 50 folks through the doors get some FREE food items for an entire year! Nice that the opening day is a Saturday so that many that work during the week can get down there and be ready. Let alone the college students that will not have to worry about class schedules interfering with getting in line for this deal.
We had a sneak peak at the pizza. A rep was going around to business here in Lincoln and we had their pizza delivered to our office today. We had a Tall Boy delivered. It was loaded with green & yellow peppers, onions, sausage, pepperoni, & Canadian Bacon. Was super impressed! The crust is very good, fluffs up very well, and very filling. This was their soft open and from a customer view…very well executed. My only issue, I like the cheese and toppings to flow almost all the way to the edge of the pizza. But that is my personal thing, others like having a little more crust on the end to munch down on.
But Topper’s Pizza is going to give some of the other pizza places some more competition in town. I believe competition makes a company better and provides a better product to consumers. Fortunately for us in Lincoln, we have lots of choices! You can place your order online or give them a call at 402-476-8677. They are located downtown at 1226 P Street. Direct delivery is available for most of the Lincoln area.
Phat Jack’s BBQ has moved to their new location as of this last monday. They were closed for a week or so preparing for this move. The new location is bigger and allows them the focus even better on what they do, BBQ! Their new location is at 11th & Cornhusker right next to the Save Mart grocery store there. So tons of parking also at this location and lots more seating.
For those not familiar with Phat Jack’s BBQ. This is a whole different experience. The restaurant is more of a preparation area and proving grounds for what Matt & Jackie really do. These two are Professional Competitive BBQ winners. Not just here and there…we are talking every single year, driving and flying all over, award winning BBQ all over the nation professionals. The walls of the new location are covered with ribbons and trophies. During the summer months it is not uncommon at all to see a note on the door and a post on Facebook that they are gone for a few days to a week to go win some more awards. This is high quality, award winning, BBQ that melts in your mouth.
They have a huge new monster of a smoker pictured below. This beast had to be hauled in. Seating has increased a ton. But the menu is still what has made Phat Jack’s awesome. They have daily lunch specials, like the psycho sandwich (1/2 pork, 1/2 brisket), your choice of side, & a drink usually runs $7.29+tax! This is all these folks do is practice, practice, practice making perfect BBQ every day. So you better be ready for this. We will also deliver a single meal all the way up to a huge car full of BBQ for your whole office for lunch.
First picture is of their old location. PS, if you take the Nacho’s Challenge you had better bring a few friends to help you eat it.
El Sitio Mexican Restaurant moved to their new location back in December. Most will remember the little place over on 17th & Van Dorn. This is a restaurant that is known around the neighborhood quite well but it is good and time that the rest of Lincoln got over there to check out the new place. In the summer it was very common to see tons of bicycles leaned up in front of the old locale as it was just a few blocks from the bike path. I hope that folks will bike over from the Hwy 2 bike paths also in the warmer months. It seemed it was part of what made El Sitio that place to be.
The new location is at 47th & Pioneers. Most will remember this fondly as the former Paul’s BBQ location. The building has undergone a pretty awesome transformation. Tile countertops, all black tables and chairs, and great lighting accents. In the evenings you can see the purple highlights one the front bar area. There is a dedicated chips and salsa bar also. Was very impressed with the new location.
Things that were great before are still the same. And they moved their large chrome insects over to the new locale also. For some the huge chrome grass hopper and praying mantis were icons of the 17th & Van Dorn location. This is the old menu but basically all the same food but new one looks a lot more polished. In fact that word describes well what El Sitio has done with their whole concept. This is a wonderful local neighborhood restaurant that is ready to build on their success. Their culture of regulars may change just a little bit with being just a few blocks from Union College. With the affordable pricing and distance from the school it is sure to become a haven for students and faculty at the college. And you don’t have to just take my word for it, Mr. Wilson has a take on it also. Give El Sitio Mexican a try if you have not been there yet.
